Privacy Policy

NZSL Direct is a service provided under Seeflow, the NZSL translation division of Deafradio, a New Zealand-based organisation. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use NZSL Direct to send a video message to an organisation.

1. What we collect

When you use NZSL Direct, we collect the following information:

  • Your name – This is required and must be your real name. The organisation receiving your translated message needs this for consultation, feedback, or other official purposes. As video messages show your face, anonymous use is not supported.
  • Your email address – This is required. The NZSL Direct translation team (Seeflow) may contact you if clarification is needed to ensure an accurate translation. The organisation you are contacting may also use your email to respond to your message.
  • Your phone number – This is optional, but may in some cases be useful for contacting you to seek clarification about your message.
  • Your video recording – This contains your NZSL message for translation
  • Technical data – Includes your IP address, browser type, and time of submission (used for security and troubleshooting)

2. Why we collect this information

We collect this information to:

  • Translate your NZSL video message into English
  • Send the translated message to the organisation you are contacting, and to enable them to contact you if required.
  • For Seeflow to contact you if there is an issue with your video or if we require clarification for translation

3. Who sees your information

Your information will only be accessed by:

  • The Seeflow translation team, for the purpose of viewing and translating your video, we use the minimum number of staff possible to protect your privacy.
  • The organisation you are contacting, who will receive the translated message and the personal details you provided, and in some cases will receive your original NZSL message.

We do not share your information with any other parties unless required to by law.

4. How we store your data

Your video and personal information are stored securely on encrypted servers. Access is limited to authorised team members within Seeflow only.

We retain your video and translated message for 30 days, unless a longer period is required by the organisation or by law. After that, the data is securely deleted.

5. Your rights

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:

  • Request access to any personal information we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct or delete your personal information
  • Withdraw your consent at any time

6. Cookies and analytics

We may use cookies or website analytics tools to help us understand how people use NZSL Direct. This data is anonymised and used only to improve site performance and accessibility. It does not identify you personally.
